Overview: Pilgrim's Run Golf Club is a public 18-hole Kris Schumacker and Mike DeVries design in Pierson, Michigan. The official scorecard lists par 73 and 7,093 yards from the longest tees. Built across more than 400 acres, the course moves through tall pines, black oaks, wetlands, open meadows and rolling ground, giving each section its own visual language. The layout is generous enough to invite a bold line, but its named holes and distinctive green complexes reward players who choose position over simple distance. Five par fives and five par threes add an unusual rhythm to the par-73 routing.
History: The front nine opened in July 1997 and the back nine followed in 1998. Kris Schumacker and Mike DeVries shaped the course through several stages, then refined the routing so the separate pieces would read as one continuous walk through the landscape. The official course history emphasizes natural wooded terrain, bentgrass playing surfaces and green complexes that were built to stand apart from one another. That combination gives Pilgrim's Run a character distinct from a typical suburban public course: it feels connected to a large tract of land, with the golf holes using the existing woods and wetlands rather than merely decorating a residential development.
Did You Know? Pilgrim's Run gives its holes literary names such as Pleasant Arbor, Slough of Despond, Deception, Bottomless Pit and Valley of Humility. The names are more than decoration, because they form a small narrative that mirrors the course's changing terrain and strategic demands.
