Overview: Located in Bara, just east of Malmö, Sweden, the Lakes Course at PGA of Sweden National is a modern 18-hole links-style course designed by the American architect Kyle Phillips. Set on an open, rolling landscape, the layout features wide fairways, deep sod-walled bunkers, and massive putting greens bordered by expansive water hazards. Exposed to Baltic winds, the course demands strategic positioning off the tee and creative ground-game approaches.
History: Officially opened on June 29, 2010, the Lakes Course was commissioned alongside the sister Links Course to establish a premier 36-hole championship resort in Scandinavia. Phillips sculpted the flat agricultural terrain, moving massive amounts of earth to create the lakes and dune contours. The course has hosted multiple professional events, including the Nordea Masters on the European Tour in 2014 and 2015.
Did You Know? The course features a highly sophisticated closed-loop water management system. The massive lakes that border the fairways serve a dual purpose, acting as a major strategic hazard for golfers and a critical irrigation reservoir that collects and recycles rainwater for the entire resort.
