Overview: Pezula Championship Golf Course occupies the clifftops of Knysna's East Head, with views toward both the Knysna Lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Ronald Fream and David Dale of GolfPlan USA shaped the 18-hole par-72 course around a diverse coastal site of fynbos, rocky ground, open ridges and sheltered valleys. The layout asks for a wide range of shots, and its elevation changes make the approach into each green feel different from the last. The 13th and 14th are signature moments, but the course's character comes from the continuous conversation between golf and the coast.
History: The Pezula Championship Course was developed as part of the Pezula resort and nature-estate project, with the current design dating from around 2000. Fream and Dale worked with the site's existing contours instead of reducing the clifftop into a uniform platform. The course has since become one of the defining golf destinations on the Garden Route, combining a resort setting with a routing that retains a strong sense of the original terrain.
Did You Know? The 13th hole drops roughly 200 feet on its way toward the green. That single descent explains why Pezula can feel more like a mountain-and-coast course than a conventional resort layout, even when the scorecard presents a familiar par-72 sequence.
