Overview: Pestana Alto Golf, located near the charming fishing village of Alvor, holds a special place in golf history as the final design of legendary three-time Open Champion Sir Henry Cotton. Opened in 1991, the course meanders through two distinct valleys, offering a classic parkland experience characterized by rolling fairways, elevated greens, and vibrant Mediterranean flora. While the layout provides a fair test for all skill levels, its strategic bunkering and undulating terrain demand thoughtful club selection and precision on the approach.
Did You Know? The course is home to one of the longest and most famous challenges in European golf: the "Sir Henry Cotton Challenge" at the 16th hole. This monster par-5 measures a staggering 600 meters (approximately 656 yards) from the back tees, requiring three exceptionally pure strikes to reach the green in regulation and earning it a reputation as a true bucket-list test for long hitters.
