Overview: Persimmon Ridge Golf Club is an 18-hole private course in western Shelby County, close to Louisville. Arthur Hills used the natural contours of the property to create a wooded parkland layout that moves through forests, across creeks and around lakes. The round includes a reported 120-ft elevation change, so the course's challenge comes from both strategic lines and changing ground. Its championship length, varied topography and strong tournament record have made it one of Kentucky's most respected private layouts.
History: Elmore Just purchased the property in 1988 with the aim of creating a course and surrounding community. Arthur Hills designed the championship layout, which opened in June 1989. Just's background in persimmon-wood clubmaking shaped the name and identity of the project, while the course itself became a long-term home for Kentucky golf administration. It later hosted the Kentucky Open for three consecutive years from 2021 through 2023.
Did You Know? Persimmon Ridge is home to Golf House Kentucky and the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame. The property therefore links a working championship course with the state's official golf institutions, and its name also honours Elmore Just's expertise in persimmon-wood clubmaking.
