Overview: Perranporth is a links course set high above the beach on Cornwall’s north coast. Its 18 holes run over natural dunes, with hollows and ridges shaping how a shot travels and how much of the landing area can be seen from the tee. The par-72 routing measures 6,296 yards, yet the exposed setting and blind lines make course knowledge useful. Here, players read the ground as carefully as the scorecard.
History: The course was laid out by James Braid and opened in 1927. Its natural dune contours have remained central to the experience, and a 2024 review appointed Lobb + Partners to advise on the course’s future while retaining its links character. The club’s own history distinguishes the building of the course from its opening, recording construction in 1926 and play beginning the following year.
Did You Know? Some holes are blind from the tee because the dunes conceal the landing ground. The 14th is locally known as “Gwella Braid,” or “Braid’s Best,” a name that links one of the course’s memorable holes back to its designer. It is a fitting detail for a layout where the land itself, rather than a dense collection of built hazards, supplies much of the challenge.
