Overview: The South Course at Peninsula Kingswood is the longer, flatter, and more open of the club's two Sandbelt routings. Its fairways move through creek lines, dry stone walls, and the sandy ground associated with Melbourne golf, while the broader setting gives the wind and changing light room to influence the round. The course's main strategic question is positioning from the tee. A good drive does more than advance the ball, it opens a cleaner angle into a green whose bunkering and contours are designed to reward thought rather than simple force. The South has a spacious visual character, but its hazards are placed to make the next shot matter. The result is an 18-hole, par-72 course with an understated, positional style.
History: Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club was formed by the merger of Peninsula Country Golf Club and Kingswood Golf Club in September 2013. The South Course then became part of a major redevelopment of the combined property, with Ogilvy Clayton Cocking Mead leading the work. The project rebuilt the golfing presentation over several years, and the club held its official grand opening in May 2019. That date marks the current Peninsula Kingswood course era, while the wider club's story reaches back to Peninsula's opening in 1925 and the earlier histories of both predecessor clubs.
Did You Know? The redevelopment did not simply place a new course on an empty site. The architectural team retained the original playing corridors while rebuilding every green, bunker, and tee. On the South Course, the combination of preserved movement and new detail is especially visible in the relationship between the creek lines, dry stone walls, and the revised green approaches.
