Overview: The North Course at Peninsula Kingswood occupies undulating sandy ground in Frankston, on the southern edge of Melbourne’s Sandbelt. Its heathland character comes from the combination of sand, native vegetation, open corridors, and fast-running playing surfaces. The modern layout by Ogilvy Clayton Cocking Mead places a premium on angles and ground movement, with greens, bunkers, and tees fitted carefully into the existing landform. It is a course that can look open from the tee while still asking precise questions about where to position the ball for the next shot.
History: Peninsula Kingswood was created by the 2013 merger of the former Peninsula and Kingswood Golf Clubs. The combined club moved to the Peninsula site in Frankston, where Ogilvy Clayton Cocking Mead undertook a four-year reconstruction of both 18-hole courses. Construction began in March 2015 and was completed in May 2019, with the North and South courses fully open later that year. The project rebuilt or reshaped the greens, bunkers, tees, fairways, drainage, and irrigation while retaining the site’s Sandbelt setting.
Did You Know? In Golf Australia’s 2020 top-100 ranking, OCM records the North Course at fifth in Australia, ahead of the South Course at the same facility. The North is also part of a 36-hole project that OCM continues to refine, so the course is treated as an evolving landscape rather than a design frozen at its opening.
