Overview: The Heritage Course at Penati Golf Resort, located in Senica, Slovakia, is a highly acclaimed heathland course designed by British architect Jonathan Gaunt. Set within a massive pine forest on a rare deposit of pure sand in central Europe, the course features sweeping sandy waste areas, native heather, and beautifully contoured green complexes. While the resort's sister course (the Legend Course, designed by Nicklaus Design) is more famous, the Heritage is highly favored by golf architecture purists for its strategic routing, natural aesthetic, and focus on the traditional ground game.
History: Opened in 2012, the Heritage Course was designed to honor the classic, golden-age principles of British heathland design, utilizing the natural sandy subsoil to ensure fast and firm playing conditions year-round. Gaunt carefully routed the holes to avoid heavy earthworks, allowing the natural pine trees and sandy blowouts to form the primary strategic hazards. The course has since hosted several European senior and amateur tournaments.
Did You Know? Penati Golf Resort is situated on a massive, prehistoric deposit of sand that is unique to the Záhorie region, providing the perfect geological foundation for true links-style drainage. The Heritage Course features a spectacular split-fairway par-4 on the 15th hole, presenting a classic strategic choice off the tee that heavily rewards a bold, well-struck drive.
