Overview: Pelican Pointe’s Preserve/Hatchet Creek combination is an 18-hole public-access routing at 499 Derbyshire Drive in Venice. The exact route is listed at par 72 and 7,009 yards from the pro tees. It combines the original Preserve nine with Hatchet Creek, the later addition, and places the course’s wetlands, lakes and Florida vegetation within a two-nine scorecard rather than a fixed standalone 18-hole property.
History: Pelican Pointe began with the Meadows and Preserve nines in 1995, both designed by Ted McAnlis. Hatchet Creek debuted in 2002, creating the current Preserve/Hatchet Creek combination within the club’s 27-hole structure. The operator’s 2026 schedule records the Preserve nine as closed for a complete renovation from May 15 until a planned October reopening, while the combination remains a valid historical and directory identity.
Did You Know? The Hatchet Creek side is the newer half of this pairing, but the Preserve nine supplies the older landscape framework. The result is a route that joins the club’s original 1995 golf with its 2002 expansion, a useful example of how a 27-hole facility can carry several different course histories at once.
