Overview: The Ocean South Course at Pelican Hill Golf Club is a public resort layout situated in Newport Coast, California. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course is routed closer to the cliffs than the North Course, bringing players to the edge of the ocean on several holes. The design features wide, manicured fairways, eucalyptus trees, and large greens guarded by Fazio's signature sand bunkers.
History: Opened in 1991, the Ocean South Course was the first layout completed at the resort. Like the North Course, it underwent a major restoration by Fazio between 2005 and 2007. The resort began another round of enhancements in 2025, updating the course's bunkers and playing surfaces to maintain top quality.
Did You Know? The par-3 13th hole features two separate greens, allowing the club to switch the hole layout daily. This design feature helps reduce turf wear on the cliff-side green and provides players with a different angle of approach depending on the day. This double-green setup is one of the few in the country, offering a unique strategic challenge to golfers.
