Overview: The Ocean North Course at Pelican Hill Golf Club is a public resort layout situated in Newport Coast, California. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course features wide fairways and large greens perched on the hillsides, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every hole. The layout meanders through coastal canyons, requiring players to manage ocean winds and navigate deep bunkers.
History: Opened in 1993, the Ocean North Course was built as the second layout at the resort. Fazio redesigned the course between 2005 and 2007 to modernize the turf and improve sustainability. In 2025, the resort commenced a new renovation program under architect Brian Curley to update the bunkers and green surfaces.
Did You Know? The course features several holes that play directly over deep coastal canyons, where errant shots disappear into protected native habitats. The layout is designed to maximize ocean views, ensuring that players can see the Pacific Ocean from every single tee box on the property. This design ensures that even on foggy days, the sound of the surf remains a constant companion to the game.
