Overview: Peachtree Golf Club occupies rolling, wooded ground in Atlanta, where Bobby Jones and Robert Trent Jones combined a natural-looking parkland setting with strategic angles and carefully shaped targets. The layout uses changes in elevation, tree lines and contoured greens to make position important on every hole. Its architecture has the calm appearance of a mature landscape, yet the preferred line and landing area are rarely as obvious as the wide Atlanta setting might suggest.
History: Bobby Jones founded Peachtree Golf Club in the late 1940s and invited Robert Trent Jones to collaborate on the design. The course opened in 1948, becoming one of the architect's earliest major assignments and an important expression of the ideas he and the Grand Slam champion shared about strategic golf. The collaboration was part of a wider Atlanta design story that also included Jones's work on other important Georgia courses.
Did You Know? Peachtree brought together two famous golfers with the same surname who were not related: Bobby Jones, the club's founder and design partner, and Robert Trent Jones, the architect. Their collaboration is remembered because Bobby Jones was drawing on his experience of Augusta National while Robert Trent Jones translated that strategic ambition into a separate Atlanta course.
