Overview: Peacehaven Golf Club lies on the Brighton Road just outside Newhaven, high on the downland above the East Sussex coast. Physically a nine-hole course, it uses separate tees on the second circuit to create an eighteen-hole round. Narrow fairways, small greens, careful bunkering and blind tee shots set by the folds of the Downs make it a course of thought rather than power. Downland folds can hide a landing area from the tee, while blind shots reward familiarity with line and slope. The higher holes open views along the coast, but the strategic interest comes from how uneven terrain changes the angle into the greens.
History: The club traces its origins to the mid-1890s, with dates between 1893 and 1895 commonly given. Its design is attributed to James Braid, and the course keeps the strategic, ground-led character associated with his work. More recently the club has operated as Peacehaven Golf and Fitness while keeping its downland course at the centre of things.
