Overview: Pasatiempo Golf Club is an Alister MacKenzie design in the hills above Santa Cruz. Its public-access parkland routing is modest in length but demanding around the greens, where deep contours, short grass and carefully placed bunkers create many possible lines of play. The course rewards imagination and control more than raw driving distance.
History: Marion Hollins founded Pasatiempo and brought MacKenzie to California to shape the course, which opened in 1929. MacKenzie's own house was built beside the sixth fairway, and the club's history page preserves his close connection with the property. The course remains one of the most direct surviving expressions of his California work.
Did You Know? The name Pasatiempo means pastime in Spanish, but the green complexes are serious golf architecture. The course's location at 20 Clubhouse Road places it close to the Santa Cruz redwood country while still giving the routing the open, strategic feel MacKenzie sought.
