Overview: Panmure is a links and heathland course near Carnoustie, with tight fairways, dunes, heather, pines and undulating greens. The layout is more intimate than a fully open seaside links, and the combination of firm ground and narrow corridors rewards accurate positioning.
History: Panmure Golf Club was formed in 1845, and the present Barry site was established after the club moved there in 1899. The course was extended and modified over time, with several changes following James Braid’s suggestions in 1922. The club also credits Old Tom Morris and Braid with the character of its links.
Did You Know? Ben Hogan spent two weeks at Panmure before winning the 1953 Open at nearby Carnoustie. He suggested a hidden bunker on the sixth hole, which is still known as Hogan’s Bunker.
