Overview: Located on the northern shores of Lake Oulujärvi in central Finland, Paltamo Golf is an 18-hole coastal parkland course designed by Ron Fream and David Dale. The layout features rolling fairways that wind through mature forests of pine and birch, leading to large, undulating greens. With multiple holes routed directly along the water's edge, players must navigate the lakeside winds and strategically placed water hazards to score well.
History: Opened in 1990 during a period of rapid golf development in Finland, the course was routed across a lakeside parcel. Fream and Dale utilized the natural pine ridges and sandy soil to craft a layout that emphasizes risk-reward shot-making and scenic routing, quickly establishing the venue as a popular sporting destination in northern Finland.
Did You Know? Lake Oulujärvi is often referred to as the "Kainuu Sea" due to its massive surface area and open water. The signature stretch of holes from the 10th to the 14th plays directly along the sandy beaches of the lake, offering views that resemble a coastal seaside layout.
