Overview: Palmetto Golf Course is an 18-hole public course in Miami, built across 121 acres and playing to par 70. Dick Wilson designed the layout, which the official county history describes as a mix of palmetto-lined fairways and a serpentine canal system flowing across and beside the holes. The facility is open year-round and includes a lighted driving range, putting green, clubhouse and pro shop.
History: Developers Porter, Russell and Wagor built Palmetto in 1959, and Miami-Dade County purchased the course in 1967. It has remained a public facility, with the county describing it as a championship course for players of different ability levels. Current management publishes separate full-round, twilight and walking rates through the course website.
Did You Know? Water is one of Palmetto’s defining design features, but not simply because of isolated lakes. The county describes a serpentine canal system that runs across and alongside the palmetto-lined fairways, giving the course a distinct South Florida character and a recurring strategic hazard.
