Overview: Paarl Old Course is the historic 18-hole routing at Paarl Golf Club, laid beside the Berg River in the Paarl-Franschhoek valley. The course combines parkland fairways, river-edge hazards, mountain views and the atmosphere of the Cape Winelands. It is a more traditional club course than the newer estate layouts nearby, with the river and mature trees often dictating the safest side of the hole.
History: Paarl Golf Club was founded in 1908 with nine holes in the town centre, then moved to the present Sanddrift ground in 1955 for an 18-hole course. When Boschenmeer Estate was developed in 1997, the Old Course was remodeled and the facility expanded to 27 holes. Danie Obermeyer led the main course work, while the club retained its long connection with the Berg River.
Did You Know? The original club began as a links-style nine-hole course in the middle of Paarl. Today’s Old Course still carries that early river relationship, but the surrounding vineyards and mountains make the modern round feel unmistakably Winelands.
