Overview: Osaka Golf Club is a rare seaside course in the Kansai region, with 18 holes, par 72 and a current total of 6,402 yards. The layout follows the complex coastal and hillside ground at Tannowa, leaving sea views on several holes and using wind, undulating fairways, raised greens and deep bunkers to create a demanding strategic test.
History: The club was founded in 1937 and the course opened on July 25, 1938. Official club material credits Osamu Ueda and Keiji Matsuyama, while the English tourism presentation emphasizes Ueda’s design. The course later went through a difficult postwar period, including a temporary closure and rebuilding of holes, but the current 18-hole identity remains rooted in the original seaside vision.
Did You Know? The official club records 83 Alison-style bunkers, while nine holes offer views of the sea. The 18th is surrounded by especially notable bunkers, so the closing hole brings together the course’s two defining ideas: coastal exposure and a severe but carefully shaped green-side test.
