Overview: Orust Golfklubb sits near Malö Strömmar on Sweden’s west coast, where the course is never far from the sea. The layout has a links-like feel in summer, with dry ground and coastal wind adding a different dimension to the park and woodland sections. Sea views appear throughout the round, while the varied terrain makes strategic thinking more valuable than simply hitting every shot with maximum force. The par-72 course is a natural fit for a golf day built around landscape, weather and changing club selection.
History: The club joined the Swedish Golf Federation in 1982. The first nine holes were ready for play on 15 June 1985 and the final nine opened in June 1987, completing the current 18-hole course. Lasse Andreasson is identified as architect, and the club’s history records substantial voluntary work by members during construction. The finished course grew directly out of the island setting rather than being imposed on a generic site.
Did You Know? The official English course page describes Orust as a place where the land can become dry and hard in summer, with a feel reminiscent of Scottish links. That seasonal change is one of the clearest signatures of the course.
