Overview: Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest is one of the oldest golf settings in the Chicago area. Its private parkland course carries the character of early American golf, with a historic routing, mature landscape and a strong tradition of strategic green sites.
History: Onwentsia's golf story began with seven holes in 1892 and nine holes in 1894 before the club moved to its present location in 1895. The early work is associated with Charles B. Macdonald, Herbert Tweedie and the Foulis brothers, rather than Seth Raynor.
Did You Know? Onwentsia hosted the 1906 U.S. Open, won by Alex Smith, placing the club among the earliest major championship venues in American golf.
