Overview: Fields Ranch West at Omni PGA Frisco is an 18-hole Beau Welling design in Frisco, Texas. The resort course plays to par 72 and 7,319 yards from the longest tees, with shorter configurations beginning at 4,138 yards. Welling routed the course through North Texas rolling ground, Panther Creek, native field grasses, live oaks, mesquite and wetlands, using more than 75 feet of elevation change to give the open site a varied rhythm. The broad fairways are intended to welcome different levels of player, but the layout still rewards creative lines and disciplined approach strategy. Its identity is not based on dramatic mountain or coastal scenery; it comes from the way Welling turns Blackland prairie and ranch landscape into a modern championship course beside a major golf resort.
History: Fields Ranch West opened in 2022 as part of the PGA Frisco golf campus, alongside Gil Hanse’s East course and the wider Omni resort development. The two championship courses were planned as the central golf offering of a new destination connected to the PGA of America headquarters. Welling’s West course was given a distinct brief from the East: it would remain strategically interesting while offering a more forgiving and broadly playable experience. The result is a course with a modern resort setting but a strong connection to the working-ranch history of the Frisco site, including the wide views and native vegetation that predated the development.
Did You Know? The West course follows Panther Creek and preserves wetlands that support native species. The official course description also notes that the average fairway is about 75 yards wide, an unusually clear statement of the layout’s intended invitation from the tee.
