Overview: Omanu Golf Club’s parkland layout runs for 18 holes near the eastern end of Tauranga Airport’s runway, a short distance from Mount Maunganui and the coast. The course measures roughly 5,850 metres and plays to par 72, with two returning nines across relatively flat ground. Tree lines, water and the possibility of aircraft overhead give the round a character that is distinctly local to the Bay of Plenty.
History: Omanu belongs to the generation of Bay of Plenty courses developed as Tauranga and Mount Maunganui grew into major holiday centres. The club’s current online material focuses on the course tour and day-to-day playing experience rather than a detailed foundation history, so no unsupported opening date or architect is attached here. The layout remains a practical community course with a strong connection to the nearby beach and airport.
Did You Know? The course’s location beside the airport makes aviation part of the visual rhythm of the round. The holes are arranged as two returning nines, so golfers can experience the airport-side setting from changing directions while the par fours and fives remain the main challenge.
