Overview: Omaha Beach Golf Club is an 18-hole, sand-based links-style course north of Auckland, set between Omaha Beach and Whangateau Harbour. The club describes a resort layout among native tōtara, pōhutukawa, mānuka and kahikatea, while the current Golf New Zealand scorecard records par 70 and 5,501 metres. The sandy ground gives the course a natural coastal identity, with wind, open sightlines and the lie of the ball shaping the strategic choices.
History: Omaha began with an original nine-hole course. The second nine was added in 2003 through Darby and Associates, creating the full eighteen used today. Later work associated with Kura Design and Kristine Kerr refined the layout and its presentation. That sequence gives Omaha a layered design history: a local coastal beginning, a full resort routing and a later effort to strengthen the course’s relationship with its sandy environment.
Did You Know? The course’s natural setting is unusually varied for a North Auckland golf property. Native forest species, harbour edges and the open beach environment all sit within the same visual frame. The result is a course where a change in vegetation or horizon can signal a change in the kind of shot that is safest, even before the green comes into view.
