Overview: The Ocean Course at The Olympic Club is a private parkland layout situated in San Francisco, California. Designed by Willie Watson and Sam Whiting, the course features a tree-lined routing that runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean. The layout is characterized by tight fairways, severe slopes, and small greens that demand accurate iron play and careful management of coastal winds.
History: Tom Weiskopf renovated the layout in 2000, and Bill Love updated it again in 2012. The course has served as a qualifying site for major tournaments, testing amateur and professional players alike.
Did You Know? Although the course sits near the ocean, players cannot see the water from most holes due to the dense groves of Monterey cypress and eucalyptus trees that line the fairways. The trees act as a natural windbreak, creating a quiet and sheltered playing environment. This creates a very different atmosphere from the wind-swept, open character of traditional links courses.
