Overview: The North Course at Olympia Fields is a Willie Park Jr. design in Olympia Fields, south of Chicago, built across a large native landscape of wooded ground, rolling land and Butterfield Creek. The directory record lists par 70 and 7,343 yards, but the course's strategic identity comes from its changing elevation, oak-lined corridors and carefully framed greens. Holes such as The Carry, The Brook and Two Rivers give the routing distinct visual chapters. The North remains a classical championship course whose architecture is unusually faithful to its original designer.
History: Olympia Fields was founded in 1915 as an immense 72-hole country club. The North, originally Course No. 4, was designed by Willie Park Jr. and opened in 1923. Financial pressure during the Depression and World War II forced the club to sell two courses, but the North survived with its integrity largely intact. It later hosted the 1928 and 2003 U.S. Opens, the 2015 U.S. Amateur, and multiple BMW Championship editions.
Did You Know? The original Olympia Fields clubhouse had an 80-foot, four-faced clock tower visible from the first tees of all four courses. The tower remains one of the clearest reminders of the club's former 72-hole scale.
