Overview: Old Lake Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole, par-70 parkland course near Tata, set in the former hunting grounds of the Esterházy family. László Soproni shaped the route through an arboretum-like property with mature trees, natural watercourses and numerous lakes. The longest published directory length is 6,340 yards, but the course's character is not built around distance: narrow corridors, water placement and the changing texture of the wooded ground reward careful positioning and a reliable short game.
History: Old Lake Golf Club was founded in 1998 among the first modern golf clubs in Hungary. The course was created on the Esterházy hunting estate, and the surrounding property later grew to include a hotel, clubhouse and practice facilities. From 2004 to 2006 the course hosted the OTP Bank Ladies Central European Open as part of the Ladies European Tour, giving Tata an important place in the region's professional golf story. The club has continued to improve the complex while retaining its arboretum setting.
Did You Know? Old Lake's 18-hole course is accompanied by a separate par-three practice layout and a driving range, so the property supports both championship golf and first experiments with the game. The club's international tournament history is especially notable for a par-70 course of this length: accuracy and the ability to plot a route through the trees have always mattered more than simply overpowering the layout.
