Overview: Old Corkscrew Golf Club was a stand-alone Jack Nicklaus design in Estero, south of Fort Myers. The par-72 course reached about 7,400 yards and used mature oak, pine and cypress, together with a natural flowway through the property, as its principal design material. Because the course was developed as a core golf property rather than a residential project, the holes had room to keep the landscape visible and separated. Water, native vegetation and changing lines into the greens gave the routing a clear woodland identity.
History: Nicklaus Design records Old Corkscrew as open in 2007. The course was built to fit the existing Corkscrew landscape instead of clearing the site for a housing development, and the operator described it as a course shaped around mature native trees and a natural flowway. In 2026, Old Corkscrew officially concluded daily golf operations as the property began its transition to the future Pandion Golf Club. The historic Old Corkscrew routing and the proposed new private-club project should therefore be treated as separate stages in the site’s history.
Did You Know? Nicklaus Design called Old Corkscrew a “core” or stand-alone course because the golf holes were not arranged around surrounding real-estate construction. That decision leaves the oak, pine and cypress landscape unusually legible from the fairways. The site is now being redeveloped as Pandion Golf Club, so the Old Corkscrew name describes a completed chapter of the property rather than the future club being planned there.
