Overview: Öijared’s Gamla course is a parkland layout in a hilly estate landscape near Floda. The course has an established woodland character, but its greens, bunkers and changing lies give the round a modern strategic edge. It is not simply a long walk through trees. The interest comes from how the holes use the shape of the ground, how the approach angles change and how the player manages the transition between open and enclosed sections. The result is a course with a long history that still asks contemporary questions of shot choice.
History: Öijared Golfklubb was founded in 1958 and its initial nine was ready for play in 1960 under Douglas Brasier. Erik Röhss designed the final nine, and the complete 18-hole course opened in 1965. Pierre Fulke later carried out a major redesign, with the Old Course reopening in 2009. The current identity therefore carries three distinct design chapters without losing the continuity of the original estate setting.
Did You Know? Öijared’s Gamla course is one of the clearest examples in Sweden of a layout that has been shaped by several generations of architects. The first nine, final nine and later redesign can all be read as separate layers in the same landscape.
