Overview: Ocean Dunes occupies a wild stretch of King Island's western coast, where rolling dunes, fine fescue fairways and bentgrass greens meet the Southern Ocean. Graeme Grant's par-72 design allows the coastline to remain visible and influential, especially across the exposed front nine and the holes that face the water. The course is spacious rather than ornamental, with risk and reward shaped by wind, dune movement and the firmness of the ground.
History: The course was developed as a major new golf project on King Island and opened in 2016. Its construction followed a clear links brief, using the existing dune system and coastal land instead of imposing a heavily planted parkland layout. The result sits within the island's growing golf identity alongside other internationally recognised courses, but Ocean Dunes keeps its own more remote and weather-shaped character.
Did You Know? Two of the par threes play across the surging Southern Ocean, making the water a direct part of the shot rather than distant scenery. The closing eighteenth also brings a split-fairway decision and a raised green framed by dunes. These holes show why the course feels strategic even when the fairways appear broad from the tee.
