Overview: Kansas City's Oakwood Country Club preserves a private 18-hole Tom Bendelow course in a mature parkland setting. The current layout measures about 6,556 yards and is presented at par 72, with shaped fairways and a compact city-club character. Its interest comes from the way a historic routing has been maintained and refined through generations.
History: Oakwood began with a nine-hole course laid out in 1911 and reached its present 18-hole form after additional holes were added in the early 1920s. The club's history also records later work involving Tom Watson, who assisted with a redesign in 1991.
Did You Know? The club traces its roots to the Progress Club, founded in 1881. That pre-dates the golf course by several decades and places Oakwood within a broader Kansas City civic and social history.
