Overview: Oaks Country Club is a historic private course in Tulsa, built on gently rolling ground with mature trees and the classic green contours associated with its Golden Age origins. A. W. Tillinghast designed the original 18 holes, shaping the course around the natural land rather than imposing a rigid pattern. The layout remains a par-71 test of 7,044 yards from the longest markers, with narrow strategic corridors, traditional green locations and a strong sense of continuity across more than a century of Tulsa golf.
History: Tulsa's club movement began in 1920, land was purchased in 1921 and A. W. Tillinghast was hired that year to design the course. The official club history records the grand opening of the clubhouse and course in 1924, with Bermuda grass introduced at the same time. Perry Maxwell renovated seven greens in 1937, and the club later hosted the Women's Trans-Mississippi, USGA Junior Girls and Women's Trans National Amateur championships. The club adopted the Oaks name after its transition to member ownership in 1952.
Did You Know? Oaks was an early Oklahoma showcase for Bermuda grass, which the club introduced at the 1924 grand opening. The property also hosted Patty Berg's 1938 Women's Trans-Mississippi victory and the 1960 USGA Junior Girls Championship.
