Overview: The West Course at Oak Tree Country Club is a private Pete Dye layout in Edmond, part of the only private 36-hole club in the Oklahoma City metro area. Compared with the more exacting East Course, the West has roomier corridors but remains full of Dye strategy: extensive bunkering, greenside mounding and contoured putting surfaces that punish a poor angle. The par-70 course plays to 6,752 yards from the longest tee. Water appears less often than on the East, but several holes still demand a committed line, including the intimidating par-three 14th.
History: Oak Tree Country Club was developed by Joe Walser and Ernie Vossler of Landmark Land Company in the early 1980s, with Pete Dye designing both championship courses. The West Course became the broader, more forgiving counterpart to the East, while retaining the bold earthwork and strategic hazards associated with Dye's Oklahoma work. Later renovation periods updated the two courses without removing their distinct identities, allowing West to remain a separate test rather than a diluted version of its neighbour.
Did You Know? On the West Course's par-five seventh, the final 50 yards form a sand-strewn loop-de-loop before the green. It is a very Dye-like use of ground, bunker shape and approach angle: the hole becomes more complex precisely when the player is closest to the target.
