Overview: Noordwijkse Golfclub occupies a striking strip of coastal land where pine, open sand and dune relief meet the North Sea. The layout’s identity comes from the movement between sheltered woodland and more exposed holes, where wind can change the value of a safe line in an instant. Firm ground and demanding approaches make placement important, but the course is not only a test of precision: its broad natural setting and shifting horizons are a central part of the experience. It remains a distinctive links-influenced course within the protected coastal landscape.
History: The present course was developed between 1969 and 1972 after the club moved toward a new site. Paul de Jong and J. Wenckebach led the construction, with advice from Frank Pennink and the Cotton and Lawrie firm. The 18-hole course was opened by Prince Claus on 16 September 1972. Pennink later advised on improvements, and Noordwijkse entered the Dutch Open story as host in 1978.
Did You Know? Noordwijkse sits within a Natura 2000 coastal environment, so its golfing character is inseparable from the surrounding dunes and pine habitat. The club’s own history records not just a golf project but an ongoing relationship with a protected landscape, which helps explain why the course feels so open, wind-shaped and closely tied to the coast.
