Overview: New Smyrna Beach Municipal Golf Course, now generally presented as New Smyrna Golf Club, is an 18-hole public par-72 course at 1000 Wayne Avenue. The USGA rating record lists 6,543 yards from the blue tees. The mainland layout combines tree-lined Florida corridors, water and traditional green settings, with several tee sets that make the course usable for a wide range of players.
History: A citizens' committee began rebuilding a public course after the earlier venue was lost to airport expansion. Donald J. Ross's firm advised on the design, and the first portion opened around 1950, with the full 18 completed in stages by 1956 and put into play the following spring. Bobby Weed led an extensive 2006 renovation, and the greens were replanted with Platinum Paspalum in 2016.
Did You Know? Thirteen of the original holes are still in use today, including holes 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10 through 18. That surviving sequence connects the present course to its postwar Donald Ross and Associates layout while the later holes complete the modern 18-hole route.
