Overview: The Front/Old routing at Nefyn sits on the Llŷn Peninsula above Porthdinllaen and the Irish Sea. Its coastal setting combines firm ground, changing wind and natural slopes with holes that work across open headland rather than through a manufactured landscape. The routing belongs to Nefyn's distinctive multi-loop facility, but this profile refers specifically to the Front/Old course recorded in the directory. J.H. Taylor and James Braid both contributed to its development.
History: Golf was first played at Nefyn in 1907 after a meeting at the Tŷ Coch pub on Porthdinllaen beach, below the present course. A nine-hole course was laid out soon afterwards. J.H. Taylor and James Braid had a hand in the course's development during the 1920s and 1930s, with Taylor praising the beauty of the site.
Did You Know? The Tŷ Coch Inn stands on the beach below the course, close to the club's historic starting point. The club's history page places the 15th fairway above the beach and describes a roughly 200-yard carry over the local lifeboat station, an unusual piece of coastal course architecture.
