Overview: Nairn Dunbar stretches along the Moray Firth beside Nairn’s East Beach, where sandy ground, dunes and coastal wind give the course its links identity. The layout is open enough to show the mountains beyond the water, yet the fairways and greens have enough movement to make every club choice matter. It is a championship-length course with a friendly, playable rhythm rather than an intimidating resort presentation.
History: The club began in 1899 when Sir Alexander Dunbar provided land for a nine-hole course. Additional ground allowed the layout to expand to 18 holes, and the club records a major restructuring in 1994 that included three new holes. The club’s current course history also records Peter Robertson’s important 1936 contribution, which helped establish the character of the course played today.
Did You Know? Nairn Dunbar was created in part to give local working people an affordable course, in contrast with the more gentlemanly origins of the town’s other early club. It has since hosted the Scottish Women’s Amateur and PGA Northern Open, as well as the R&A Boys Amateur Championship.
