Overview: King’s North at Myrtle Beach National is a public resort course built around Arnold Palmer’s risk-and-reward design ideas. The layout combines broad resort fairways with dramatic waste areas, water and strategic angles that reward confident decisions.
History: King’s North opened in 1973 as the first of three Palmer designs at Myrtle Beach National. Palmer oversaw a major redesign in 1996, and Brandon Johnson led a two-year renovation completed in 2026 that restored green space and modernized the bunkering while retaining the original character.
Did You Know? The course’s famous sixth hole is known as “The Gambler” because its island fairway offers a bold shortcut for players willing to take on the risk. It is one of the clearest examples of Palmer’s theatrical design style.
