Overview: Mountain Brook Club is a private parkland course in Birmingham, Alabama, set among rolling ground and the residential landscape of Mountain Brook. Donald Ross’s original routing uses changing terrain and tree-lined corridors, while later work has refined the bunkers, greens and playing surfaces. The course’s front and back nines have noticeably different topographic moods.
History: The club was organized in 1929 with a Donald Ross design at its center. George Cobb and John LaFoy later worked on the course, and Brian Silva has more recently helped restore Ross-related features while adapting the layout to current play.
Did You Know? The front nine climbs and descends the mountain, while the back nine occupies flatter ground. That topographic split is a simple way to understand why the course can feel like two connected landscapes during one round.
