Overview: Mount Juliet Golf Club is Jack Nicklaus’s 18-hole Signature Design course at Mount Juliet Estate in County Kilkenny. The resort lists a par 72 course of up to 7,200 yards across rolling parkland, with specimen trees, streams and pastures shaping the routing. It is an inland resort course with a generous sense of space, but water and carefully framed approaches create a substantial strategic test. The course sits within a large historic estate and is part of a destination that combines golf with the manor house and wider country-landscape setting.
History: The course first opened in 1991 after being designed by Jack Nicklaus. Mount Juliet hosted the Irish Open in 1993, 1994 and 1995, the World Golf Championships in 2002 and 2004, and returned to the Irish Open calendar in 2021 and 2022. Those events are central to the course’s public history, but the design has also matured through decades of tree growth and estate management. Its current identity is a mature Nicklaus parkland course, not simply a newly built resort layout.
Did You Know? Tiger Woods won the 2002 World Golf Championship at Mount Juliet, while Ernie Els won the 2004 edition. The course has also hosted multiple Irish Opens, including the 2021 and 2022 events. Those tournaments explain why a relatively modern inland course has such a strong place in Ireland’s professional-golf history.
