Overview: Mossel Bay Golf Club is a links-style Garden Route course where the Indian Ocean is visible from every tee. The 18-hole, par-72 layout measures about 5,940 metres and is an easy walk, but the coastal wind and large, undulating greens make scoring more demanding than the length suggests. Springbok on the fairways and the high view from the 17th add a strong sense of place.
History: The club was founded in 1905, moved to its present ground in 1924 and built the course over the following two years under Bob Grimsdell’s design. At the end of the twentieth century Danie Obermeyer redesigned the course, with Philip Basson rebuilding it as the surrounding Mossel Bay Golf Estate took shape. The project gave the old club a modern destination identity without losing its coastal setting.
Did You Know? The 17th is the signature hole, a downhill par five of about 494 metres from the back markers. Its elevated tee looks over the estate and the ocean, but the three-level green and sea breeze can turn an apparent birdie chance into a careful three-shot hole.
