Overview: The Mornington Peninsula setting frames a full 18-hole course on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, where the fairways use the natural rises and bay-facing ground above the town. The course offers a mix of open views, mature vegetation and compact green approaches, with the landscape doing much of the work that a resort would normally manufacture. Its location near the Peninsula’s beaches, wineries and accommodation makes it a practical day-trip course from Melbourne and a useful addition to a longer golf itinerary.
History: The club’s roots reach back to 1904, but the current site was established in the post-war period. The first nine holes on the present property came into play on 29 April 1950 and the second nine followed soon after; Golf Australia records the 18-hole course as complete by the end of 1955. Gus Jackson laid out the modern course. A 19th par-three was added in 2017, but the directory’s 18-hole identity remains the main course.
Did You Know? Mornington celebrated its centenary in 2004, even though the current site is younger than the club. That split between club age and course age is common in Australian golf, and here it explains why the club has a long history while the present fairways date from the 1950s.
