Overview: Moose Run's Creek Course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage. It measures 7,324 yards from the back tees and runs through the foothills of the Chugach Mountains, with Ship Creek and wetland ground shaping the routing. Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth's design combines broad, rolling fairways with demanding green approaches and long sightlines across the forest. The course's most distinctive features include two holes routed through reclaimed gravel pits and a 640-yard par-five 11th, the longest hole listed by the Alaska Golf Association. The result is a long, forested layout whose scale is unusual even within Alaska.
History: The Creek Course opened in 2000 as an 18-hole expansion of the Moose Run golf operation on the military reservation. The older Hill Course was built by Army Corps of Engineers in 1952, and Top100GolfCourses records its early nine-hole routing expanding to 18 three years later; Creek was the later course that brought the facility to 36 holes. Alaska Golf Association records credit Nelson and Haworth with the Creek design and identify the course as a major state championship venue. The association's history also records a course rating of 78.0 and slope of 142, the highest in Alaska, helping explain why the new layout quickly became a reference point for competitive golf in the state.
Did You Know? The Creek name comes from Ship Creek, which winds through and alongside several holes. Holes 6 and 11 use reclaimed gravel-pit ground, turning a legacy of extraction into two of the course's most memorable landscape features. The 11th is also a 640-yard par five, recognized as Alaska's longest hole.
