Overview: Montado Hotel & Golf Resort lies among cork oaks, vineyards, olive trees, and low-lying water features near Palmela and Setúbal. The parkland routing has generous visual scale, but lakes and streams narrow useful landing areas as the round progresses. Jorge Santana da Silva’s work is evident in reshaped playing corridors and green approaches, while the agricultural landscape keeps the course tied to the Setúbal peninsula. The par-72 layout rewards a steady driving line and a measured approach to the greens.
History: The course began operating in 1992 under its original designer, Duarte Sottomayor. A substantial redevelopment followed in the mid-2000s, with Jorge Santana da Silva responsible for the redesign and reopening in 2006 according to golf-course records. That chronology matters because 1992 describes the original course, while the present experience carries the imprint of the later reconstruction. Montado became a venue for the Portuguese International Amateur Championship from 2011.
Did You Know? The eighteenth is built around an island green, a fitting final statement for a course where water has been part of the strategy all day. Montado also preserves the visual language of the region, with cork trees and vineyards appearing beside the fairways rather than being cleared for a purely ornamental landscape. The finish feels connected to Palmela’s working countryside.
