Overview: Minot Country Club is a private Jim Engh design on the hills south of Minot, where prairie, coulees and strong North Dakota winds shape a modern links-style course. The layout uses the natural rise and fall of the land to create elevated tees, changing approach angles and broad views across the Souris River Valley. It is a full 18-hole, par-72 course with four tee sets ranging from 4,485 to 6,870 yards. Engh's routing leaves generous corridors in places, but the elevation and wind make distance control more important than the open appearance first suggests.
History: The current course grew from a difficult chapter in Minot golf. The original Minot Country Club, founded on the Souris River in the late 1920s, was destroyed by the major 2011 flood. Rather than rebuild on the vulnerable site, the club relocated and hired Jim Engh to create a new course on higher, more varied ground. Construction began in 2013, and the new 18-hole course opened for play in spring 2015. The relocation preserved the club's continuity while giving its golf a landscape better suited to long-term play.
Did You Know? The old course's flood history is visible in the new design's setting. The current routing was selected for its hills and coulees, and the architect described the wind as a major design consideration. Several tee shots drop dramatically, so the course's challenge comes from both the shape of the land and the moving air above it.
