Overview: Minneapolis Golf Club is a classic parkland course in St Louis Park, just west of Minneapolis. The layout uses gently rolling ground, mature trees, and shaped green complexes to create a strategic test that is more about angles and recovery than raw length. Willie Park Jr. established the original design language, and Donald Ross later refined the routing. The 7,045-yard course has the scale for championship golf while retaining the compact, walkable character expected of an early twentieth-century club.
History: The club was founded in 1916 and moved to its present St Louis Park site as the membership expanded. William D. Clark carried Park's design forward, and Donald Ross reconfigured the routing in 1920. Later restoration and turf work, including Ron Prichard's 2007 work and a 2020 enhancement project, aimed to improve playing surfaces without losing the course's historic structure. The club hosted the 1950 U.S. Amateur and the 1959 PGA Championship.
Did You Know? The 1959 PGA Championship at Minneapolis Golf Club was the first Minnesota golf tournament to receive national television coverage from CBS. That event helped put the club and Minnesota golf into a wider sporting conversation, long before today's championship venues became regular broadcast locations.
