Overview: Mines Golf Club is a public Mike DeVries design just minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. The course sits above former gypsum-mining ground and uses rolling fairways, mature hardwoods, sandy soils, and substantial elevation change to create an unusually natural-feeling course in an urban setting.
History: The Mines opened in August 2005 with 18 holes and a full practice facility. DeVries shaped the layout around the site’s old mine terrain, and later ownership also recovered part of an abandoned three-hole concept to create the current short-course practice feature.
Did You Know? The course takes its name seriously: gypsum was mined on the property as early as the 1860s. The finished layout now sits roughly 150 feet above the old workings, with about 110 feet of elevation change across the 18 holes.
