Overview: Milwaukee Country Club, located in the exclusive enclave of River Hills, Wisconsin, is an elegant, historic golden-age parkland masterpiece designed by the legendary English duo of H.S. Colt and C.H. Alison. Set on rolling hills along the scenic Milwaukee River, the course features mature elm and oak forests, deep grass-faced bunkers, and subtly contoured green complexes. It stands as a true monument of classic golf, highly celebrated for its understated elegance, flawless maintenance, and its natural, flowing routing that integrates beautifully with the riverbank.
History: Founded in 1929, the course represents one of the very few layouts designed in the Midwest by Colt and Alison, with C.H. Alison spending months on-site to execute the routing. The club has maintained an uncompromising dedication to preserving Alison's original architectural vision, resisting the urge to modernize the layout. In the 2000s, architect Tom Doak was brought in to perform a meticulous restoration, clearing out overgrown trees and restoring the historic bunker scales.
Did You Know? The club is notoriously private and has hosted only a few highly select amateur championships, including the Walker Cup in 1969. The spectacular par-3 8th hole plays directly along the banks of the Milwaukee River to a green perched on a high ridge and guarded by Alison's signature deep sand traps, presenting a classic and visually striking challenge.
