Overview: Middelburg Country Club has a broad, established parkland layout in Mpumalanga, with 18 holes, par 72 and a length of about 6,556 metres. Gary Player’s design contribution, water hazards on many holes and mature fairway corridors create a round that rewards both distance control and the ability to choose a safe line through the larger features of the property.
History: Golf at Middelburg began in the early twentieth century, with the official club history tracing an early course to 1903. The club relocated to its present site in 1967, and Gary Player designed the second nine in the 1970s. The completed 18-hole course is commonly dated to 1974. These stages explain why both an old club tradition and a later Player design are part of the course’s identity.
Did You Know? Water is a recurring strategic feature rather than a single signature hazard. Course records note water on 13 holes, so the safest score often comes from managing the round hole by hole instead of treating the lakes and channels as occasional obstacles that only matter on one or two tees.
